Addition is the first of the four fundamental operations. When you add 2 (or 3) numbers , its easier to do it in the normal method.
eg: you add 98 + 35. 1 Step 1 : 9 8 Step 2 : 9 8 +3 53 5 3133 Eight + Five = Thirteen , One carry over. One + Nine = Ten , Ten + Three = Thirteen. Therefore , our answer is 133. (98 + 35 = 133)
eg: you add 345 + 126 + 569. Step 1: 3 4 5 + 1 2 6 + 5 6 9 0 Five + Six = Eleven , Eleven + Nine = Twenty , Two carry over. 2 Step 2 : 3 4 5 + 1 2 6 + 5 6 9 4 0 Two + Four = Six , Six +Two = Eight , Eight + Six = Fourteen , One carry over. 1 Step 3 : 3 4 5 + 1 2 6 + 5 6 9 1 0 4 0 One + Three = Four, Four + One = Five , Five + Five = Ten Therefore, our answer is 1040.
This was the Normal Method . -------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------
When you have more than 3 numbers , it's easier to use the Vedic Method :
It might* follow the sutra " Sankalana Vyavakalanabhyam " ( By Addition and by Subtraction )
eg 1 : Let us take a set of 7 numbers : 2 7 4 You add numbers just like the normal method but stop when the sum 1 6 7 . crosses 10 , and keep a dot. In this case , Four + Seven = Eleven , Eleven is 6 3 9 greater than Ten , so stop and keep a dot ( . ) 4 7 6 5 0 8 3 9 2 8 3 1
